SOTR: Securing ColdFusion Applications
May 05, 2009 · 2 Comment s
There's more to securing your ColdFusion applications by simply giving your ColdFusion Administrator a password.
Tag's David Rutter is going to help you by discussing ways to avoid the front pages of the news because of a security breach by covering topics such as XSS/CSRF/SQL Injection, coding for security, security and standards (ISO27000, PCI, etc), and what features ColdFusion itself brings to the table.
For those looking to harden their environments, or for those looking for a some security reassurance, then David's talk should not be missed.

SOTR: ColdFusion is Dead, or is it?
May 01, 2009 · 8 Comment s
Every year, there is a story that sparks another "ColdFusion is Dead" debate.
Peter Elst, a name very well known in the Flash Community, challenged the last such story by another well known Flash Community Gugu; Aral Balkan.
As part of his efforts to rebuke Aral's claims, Peter has accepted the challenge of finding out whether ColdFusion really is dead and will present his findings at Scotch.
In the build up to Scotch on the Road: London, where Peter will present, he has been looking at everything and anything to do with ColdFusion, speaking with people who have an opinion on ColdFusion, and he will talk a little about his own challenges with the technology and why he hasn't used ColdFusion for his projects.
A brave man indeed to take on such a challenge, but we think this will be one of the best sessions at Scotch.

SOTR: Comparing Application Framworks
April 30, 2009 · No Comments
A common question still to this day is: Which framework should I use?
Railo's Sean Corfield will be helping you decide with his session on Comparing Application Frameworks at Scotch on the Road: London. Sean will cover the similarities and differences between the two most popular OO application frameworks, in addition to touching on Coldbox, as well as showing how to structure your application and how to integrate other frameworks such as ColdSpring and Transfer.
This will be a really great session for those who are still undecided, those who are looking to take their development that stage further and for anyone who needs a refresher.

SOTR: FusionAnalytics - Seeing Is Believing
April 29, 2009 · 2 Comment s
Intergral are well know for their fantastic FusionDebug and FusionReactor products, and for some time now they've been teasing us with the promise of a new addition to the Fusion product family; FusionAnalytics.
FusionAnalytics allows us to interpret and analyze log information, pulling data together into an organised and consolidated time series, giving us a unique perspective into what our applications are doing. No longer will we have to manually trawl through files trying to figure out what's went wrong, why things are slow, or to help us identify hot spots and trends and to plan capacity based on what is reported.
Here's a few snapshots showing the FusionAnalytics in action.
FusionAnalytics has reaped a huge amount of praise already, and that's even before it's been released in Alpha. Ray Camden even blogged that FusionAnalytics was the coolest thing at CFUnited 2008.
Well, here we are in 2009, and at Scotch on the Road: London, we're going to have Intergral's David Stockton not just talk about the product, but also demo the product.
The Fusion products are the essentials tools for all CFML development and monitoring, and Analytics is going to take things forward in such a way that it will blow your mind.

Scotch on the Road Update
March 31, 2009 · No Comments
Today we release a whole bunch of new things for Scotch on the Road.
1. Schedules / Speakers
We have now released the schedules for London, Manchester and Edinburgh. This also means that we have confirmed the speakers for every location. We still have a few topics to fill in but you can now see what's going on at each location
2. Sponsors
We've also announced a batch of sponsors for this years tour. Adobe, Railo, Intergral, Academy Class and of course Fuzzy Orange, are all sponsoring.
3. Newsletter sign up
We've added a little button to the Scotch home page to allow you to sign up to our newsletters. Our newsletters are pretty damn cool, even if I do say so myself. And, if you want to enter our competitions, you need to be on the mailing list!
4. Technology Amnesty
The amnesty has been a huge success so far. Whilst we haven't yet given away every ticket, we've give away a lot more than we ever imagined. Manchester so far has the lead in the fact we've given away 8 tickets to non-CFML developers who want to come along and see what the fuss is.
5. Guitar Hero
If you want to know more, you need to be on the mailing list to get the newsletter :)

Scotch on the Road 2009
February 11, 2009 · No Comments
Well, we've got a number of things in place now for our 2009 tour, including the London and Edinburgh venues, a number of sponsors and speakers and we are of course planning some crazy ass-shit to tease you all with ... wouldn't be Scotch otherwise.
Ticket registrations are also ready to go but we won't open them up until I click 'deploy' on the new site.
Oh, and for those who are looking to attend Manchester, Big Kev should have that sorted very very soon.
As Eddie Hitler and Richie Richard both say .... "Brace Yourself!"
