New Look, new URL, new Zest for Blogging
December 31, 2009 · No Comments
A couple of months back I managed to get a hold of the andyallan.com domain, and this put into play a series of events, which finally means my blog is back up and running.
I've been wanting to ditch the old "Creative Restraint" title for a while, and to be honest, started to lose enthusiasm for blogging because of it. The old design didn't help either.
However, with the capture of andyallan.com, I started looking for a new design, and found a rather spiffy one courtesey of Matt Brett. It cost me a few quid but I really like it.
It's actually a Wordpress template and came all set up with PHP code riddled through the template files. PHP is fairly straight forward, and having dabbled with it in the past it didn't take too long to swap out the code for some CFML.
I also made a few adjustments to Mango blog to support uploading a Blog Entry Image and creating thumbnails on the fly. I've also moved the blog to the Rackspace cloud.
So all in all, quite a few things have happened, but I'm happy that the blog is back up and running and I've got a renewed zest for churning out new material, some of which may be co-posted here and on our company blog over at Fuzzy Orange.
Anyway, have a great New Year and I'll see you all in 2010.

Scotch on the Road Europe nearly "Sold Out"
September 30, 2009 · No Comments
It seems strange to refer to the SOTR Europe events as being "sold out" when the events are free, but referring to them as being full makes them sound more like everyone is drunk - or maybe it's a Scottish thing??
Anyway, registration across the board is at 86% with Amsterdam, London and Zurich having already "sold out" their ticket allocation. We've already increased capacity for Amsterdam due to demand, and we've put standby lists in place for both London and Zurich with the aim, depending on demand, of increasing capacity.
Brussels and Milan are both doing well for registrations, but surprisingly Munich is lagging well behind. Maybe folks are planning a holiday after Oktoberfest? :)

Scotch on the Road Europe
September 25, 2009 · No Comments
We've been fairly quiet about SOTR Europe, and let it push itself along. We're now a month away from heading to Munich, the first date of that tour which also takes in Zurich, Milan, Amsterdam, Brussels and London.
We're delighted to say that both Amsterdam and London have sold out. Even better is that the demand for Amsterdam has so good that we've managed to push the venue to the limit and open up registration again for another 20 registrations. Once those are gone, there will be no more.
We're created a standby list for London, and we'll look to find space for those on the list if there is enough demand.
The great thing about this tour is that it's going to see us visit 400 ColdFusion developers. Taking in the 230 developers we visited as part of SOTR UK, we'll have reach over 600 European CF developers. That's absolutely fantastic!
The European tour is also seeing a number of European ColdFusion companies sponsor the tour, including Prisma-IT, Herrlich & Ramuschkat, and Tesi, as well as long time SOTR sponsors Intergral. We've also got Straker Software sponsoring a number of events. And we're still working on a few others - more details soon!
This is going to be a great tour, and with any luck we'll have some announcements about SOTR 2010 as well.
