Blog-City/BlueDragon slides available

The slides for last nights Blog-City/BlueDragon talk by Alan Williamson are now available at http://www.scottishcfug.com/meetings/ A good turn out sat in as an energetic and enthusiastic Alan went through in detail the set up behind Blog-City, both at a hardware and software level. Keeping things mainly CFML (before a small bit of CFMX bashing), he made it resoundingly clear that CFML can easily be deployed in a high volume production site, hence falsifying the claim that CFML is slow. Also featured was a small stint on BlueDragon.NET before questions were opened up to both Alan, and fellow Blog-City/BlueDragon colleague Andy Wu. On a different note, I actually remembered to give away prizes this month unlike last month where I completely forgot ... d'oh!

    CFMX bashing? Me? Never! :)

I merely pointed out that Macromedia don't provide all the facts. You may believe you are CFML developers, but in reality you are CFML.java developers. They have forced you into Java and consequently cut your earning potential 50% by not supporting .NET.

BlueDragon is the only true CFML platform not forcing you to chose. You have chosen CFML to build your webapps; not J2EE, or even .NET. The choice of platform is generally higher managements and more often than not, is based not on technical reasons but costs. We don't live in a J2EE world anymore; its split evenly across both.

    Why restrict yourself? :)

Thought the talk was very good, and i'll certainly consider Bluedragon when its time to upgrade to Blackstone. If Bluedragon does all that Blackstone promises???

Also thought i might try some low traffic sites on Bluedragon, and found what looks like a good deal for Bluedragon VPS hosting. This seems like a no brainer to me? Anybody else agree?
