How I Got Started With ColdFusion

August 1, 2011 · No Comments

In the summer of 1998, I landed a little 3 months placement at what was then Bell College in Hamilton, Scotland. This was during my third and fourth year at Strathclyde University and I really needed something to keep me interested in my Computer Science course.

When I was planning going to University, I had two choices; Physics or Computing. Up until that summer placement, I felt I had made the wrong choice.

I arrived on site to find that the College were looking for an online version of their Course Prospectus. The guys in the department had already done a little work in the way of research and basically tabled two options. Active Server Pages (ASP) or Allaire Cold Fusion 3.1.

After a little research myself, I decided upon Cold Fusion. Four months later ( I stayed on an extra month unpaid to finish the work), the College had their prospectus, and I had a renewed love of Computing.

OK, it was technically "Computing" and it didn't really encourage me to do well in my final year. Some how I managed to get through it, grab my honours degree (albeit a 3rd class) and graduate. You see, this thing called Cold Fusion meant I literally ignored all my course work and simply got hands on, down and dirty with the server and language I still use and love to this day.
