Music of Mass Coding

July 18, 2007 · 11 Comment s

When I'm in full blown coding mode, like I am just now, I need music. I'm sure someone could tell me that music helps to stimulate my creativity, or that it helps block out other distractions...

Anyway, the point is that for me it's a necessity and I thought I'd take a quick 5 mins to blog what has been on the jukebox today

  • Machine Head - The Blackening
  • Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage
  • Children of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet?
  • Lamb of God - Sacrament

And there will be more to come.

So what do other folks listen to when coding?

Is there something other than music that stimulates you when coding?

    The Matrix Soundtrack!
I also seem to have listen to Fallen - Evanesence a lot while coding too....

Though I'm not one for club/dance music, but sometimes that mind numbing repetitiveness helps the concentration too...

I listen to Crystal Method and now a local DJ named Eric Jordan. His site is www.neverrain.com and he provides tracks for free.

+1 for Eric Jordan at neverrain.com! I dont typically listen to that type of music but when coding, its great! I created a playlist in iTunes with all of his mixes and since they are 1+ hours long, you can listen for days!

The new Smashing Pumpkins album is totally rockin - way more riffs and solos than ever before - 9/10!

On the heavy side of things, been listening to some Sevendust and Trivium. Can't go past a good bit of metal sometimes, and it definitely makes good coding music ;)

Today was mostly a Tangerine Dream day but usually it's a mix that includes Banco De Gaia, Chemical Brothers, Morcheeba, Talvin Singh, Caveman Shoestore, Sheila Chandra, Ozric Tentacles.

Music would be nice, but I have to settle for my manager's ramblings instead. Makes for great distraction-ignoring training :)
