New Adobe.com - how to make you pass out in one easy step

December 7, 2007 · 10 Comment s

Update:The Adobe web team have been quick to change the CS3 video and remove the "strobe-like" text changing part, at the beginning of the video. The part which caused my better halfs seizure. Well done, and thank you. The new design still leaves a lot to be desired however.

The new Adobe website, which I really don't rate at all, is your one stop shop to giving you a fit and having you pass out.

The CS3 Flash animation/video/whatever on the home page could easily cause an epileptic fit, and in fact, if this was in a movie, there would be warnings to say just that.

Now, I'm sure some people would say I'm just being really annoyingly pinickity about this, but seeing as my better half suffers the effects of strobe lighting, or fast, random changing images, etc ... well, she passed out whilst going to see what the new Adobe site was all about.

Adobe, please drop this video, or at least give some sort of warning!

Andy - The video is quite annoying. Also, on my 17" widescreen display on my laptop, the entire right-half of my screen is empty thanx to the left-alignment.

I also don't like that CF is not on the main page, or even the main products page

The search box looks quite lonely on the right hand side of the screen if you max your browser window open. I'm really beginning to hate left-aligned sites. Fine, make it left aligned, but make a freaking 10px gutter between the browser frame / website. I'm quite disappointed in Adobe atm.

Also, the drop-down menu's have a transparent background or the z-index is messed up because they blend into the Flash movie, very annoying. Overall, I don't like it one bit and it kind of goes against the general Web 2.0 design principles of easy fonts, judicious whitespace, and not information overload. Overall, I expect more from Adobe.

It's really hard to beat the old site, which was awesome. Adjusting to the new is always difficult and I try to be patient with any company that launches a new site so I have a chance to adapt. However, I find this new site not very well thought out on many respects. The landing video is bad, the search is very out of place, the left alignment looks terrible, the color theme is ok, but sporadic, the sliding menus on the bottom left are ugly and pointless as all that information is in the menus above... and most importantly I already miss my pretty drop-down menus from the last site. I'm not impressed.

Andy, I've emailed some folks I know at Adobe directly so they can take some action on this. I hope your wife is doing better. :(

Hi, you can reach the webteam directly, through the feedback widget at the bottom-right of the front page. (Emailing other staffers directly may not be as effective.)

I haven't visited or read everything yet, and so don't have original info of my own to add, but the feedback route on the front page is the fastest, thanks.

Weird. I was wondering what everyone was talking about since the site looked the same to me. Then I switched to IE and I see the site is very different. In Firefox it still looks the same. And yes, I've cleared my cache in FF.
