Thunderbird Email Client

July 11, 2004 · 4 Comment s

Well, I've decided to move from Outlook to Thunderbird as my primary email client at home. After using Outlook for years, mainly because that's what I used at work, I've finally made the change. My laptop is already hooked up, accessing via IMAP and I'll get around to moving my main home machine over sometime this week. Unfortunately I'm going to have to stick to Groupwise at work (for work email) - and Groupwise sucks more than an industrial strength hoover. When I moved job 9 months ago now I never imagined having to work with something so goddam awful, but such is life. Also, because both POP3 and IMAP ports are blocked by our IT guys at work, I can't use Thunderbird, which is utter crap. Another one of the negative points moving from a job where I controlled everything to one where I do 100% pure web development.

I also arrived here after a google search, "Groupwise Sucks". I'm stuck with it for work email, and we're using 6.5. It can't even properly display HTML attachments in the viewer. It smart enough to strip out the tags, but it simply serves me a huge block of unformatted text. This is garbage, I too want to be able to use Thunderbird to connect to our mail server at work.

I just googled "GroupWise sucks" as well. I wonder if the guys behind GroupWise are aware of this. I don't understand why we don't just use gmail for work related mail. It's free and infinitely better.
