UK RIA meeting last night

Went along to the UK RIA meeting in Edinburgh last night to see the guys from iteration::two get drunk ... no, I mean talk about building your first RIA with Flex, as well as Offline RIAs with Flex and Central. Having seen Flex apps in action before from both in the flesh meetings, as well as those presented by Breeze, I've experienced the "wow" factor quite a few times now. However, last nights presentations went a bit deeper with Steven (Webster) and Andy (Rayne) demo'ing pre-made code as well as some "on the fly" coding with MXML. And it was at that point that it really hit me just how powerful, and how easy* it is to create an RIA compared to the torment that would be Flash - let the flame war commence! :) *by easy I mean just how simple the MXML is that allows you to create layouts, panels, objects, etc It really has given me the jump start to finally install Flex and get to grips with the little guy. And of course I've got the - cue blatant plug - Flex book as co-authered by Steven and Alistair (McLeod) to guide me along. In all a really worthwhile meeting as it didn't involve the marketing/sales crap that I've experienced so far - you got me at "Hello" - and I'd definately like to see more meetings at this sort of coding level. The only disappointing thing was not having the energy to heckle the iteration::two guys. Maybe next time. (last night was the first time I've ever heard MVC called 'kinky' - care to explain gentlemen lol)
